Nevada's Vast Great Basins

Traveling across Nevada is not to be taken lightly. Even on an interstate the distances between fuel stops have to be planned especially on a motorcycle. I stopped about every 100+ miles just to be safe. My range is about 230 but with these headwinds and higher speeds I was not taking any chances. The heat was somewhere over 100 and the thermometer on my bike read 120. Some of that is engine oil cooler heat which I have estimated at about 10 degrees, but you could just feel the heat coming off the pavement, especially when you hit a new section with very black asphalt. Thank heaven for my camelback water bladder with ice water in it. I sipped on it most of the way across. All 500+ miles of it. These picture were taken while riding. No use stopping, it still looks the same. A huge contrast to what we are used to back east. I was hoping for a low fly bye of some military jets, as this is their "play area" and on other trips I have been blessed by being surprised, as they would blast overhead at about 100ft above ground level. I swear they do it to scare that lone rider who is simply tooling along at the speeds us mortals travel. Since this was a Sunday, I guess the boys "and girls" were not out playing this day. Shucks... I like to see an F-18 or F-15 with full burner shaking the ground.
