The WRENCH (Gordy)
Not to take anything away from the other techs in this dealership, but I could sense the respect that co-workers and other customers had for Gordy. I slept well knowing that my bike was in good hands and the work would be done by an experienced wrench that knew what he was doing. The first thing he did the night I arrived was tell me that he could feel that there was a problem in the hydrolic clutch system. It might be the slave cylinder or master or both, but something was not right! As turns out he was right. When I had changed my fluids I had replaced the fluid with DOT 4 brake fluid instead of the specified mineral oil. I guess Mac and I were in a little of a rush and I did not read the cap of the reservoir carefully enough. It turns out that the clutch was near needing replaced anyway, but I certainly contributed with the wrong fluid. From what I have learned Dot 4 attacks the rubber components of the mechanism and caused them to fail. The master cylinder was not allowing the clutch to fully engage hence the slipping. SOOOOO new master cylinder and other parts. Here is gordy on the final assembly with the JUNK on the floor.
I was a little too late to see the bike in two parts. Gordy was in his zone and working feverishly to get me done so, I would not be held up until Tuesday to finish the work. Thanks GORDY for everything! You can wrench on my bike any time!
Live and learn!
